Sophia Loren | Born 1934
It would not come off as a surprise when Italian star Sofia Scicolone, who professionally goes by the name Sophia Loren, would be hailed by the American Film Institute as one of the greatest female stars of Classic Hollywood Cinema. To date, she belongs to the surviving celebrities who defined the Golden Age of Hollywood. Loren’s acting career was catalyzed after she participated in a beauty pageant. She received her earliest credits during the 1950s, starring in relatively minor roles. However, with hard work and determination, Loren was given roles in films such as The Pride and the Passion, Houseboat, and It Started in Naples.
For her performance in Two Women, Loren became the recipient of an Academy Award. She also has over five Golden Globe awards, a BAFTA Award, and a Laurel Award, among others.
