The Dark Side of Tech

Constantly evolving has been part and parcel of life. From the smallest red blood cells to the biggest telescopes, we evolve in a similar way with our technology.

Between the best smart watches and big-screen smart televisions, the annual Consumer Electronics Show has exhibited gadgets that are quite far from what we have expected. As the year starts, Las Vegas’ Consumer Electronics Show is flocked with more than 200,000 people from all over the world to witness the newest and latest gadgets. In a sea of high-def television sets, complex smart watches, and sleek drones among others, it’s often the odd gadgets that take most credit for catching people’s attention.

While progress with technology is a good thing, it is worth noting that there is always the other side of the coin. Here are a few of the not-so-bad sides of tech.

Automatic Floss Dispenser

At approximately $30, the Flosstime floss dispenser can take out 18-inches of floss with a wave of your hand. It flashes attractive colors to signal the user when to stop flossing. If the device has been left unused for a week, the gadget will dispense a length of floss automatically. This dispenser can be attached to the user’s mirror. A new set comes with over 160 feet of floss and costs an investment of $6 to replace. However, if you’re looking to save, Amazon sells the same length of floss for $5 but you would be forced to dispense it by hand.

24K Gold Coffee Maker

Among the most recognized beverages in the world, coffee is perhaps the most notable. In some countries, this drink isn’t just a staple drink but a productivity booster for students and employees alike. However, for some, drinking and even making coffee can be considered an art form.

While making coffee is relatively inexpensive, the Royal Paris Coffee Maker is the epitome of glamor. It boasts a handcrafted 24-karat coffee maker made out of gold and silver or crystals and semi-precious stones. Making coffee in this brewer can be less of a routine and more of a ceremony.

 Smart Stove Knob

This seemingly revolutionary product had probably started when a scientist was doubtful about turning off the stove before he left home; on arriving home, he was more exhausted worrying about his stove than with work. His proposed solution? Automation. Having said that, an investment in this smart stove knob will allow you to set a timer on your stove from your phone. Installing this requires nothing more than simply attaching a few things. For an affordable price of $200, you can have the peace of mind you deserve.

Bluetooth Toaster

This product was probably inspired by the Smart Stove Knob. For $100, you can get your hands on a Griffin Technology Connected Toaster. It boasts a digital toaster that can be controlled by the user via smartphone-linked Bluetooth; personalized settings such as temperature and time do not need to be set every time you heat a slice of bread. Yes, the sole goal of this device is to toast your favorite breads to perfection.

Grillbot Automatic Grill Cleaning Robot

Manning the grill and showing off your cooking skills to friends is one of the best ways to spend the holidays or even during the weekends. However, after downing a six-pack and a few steaks, cleaning the grill would not be as enjoyable as cooking in it. Making an investment in this grill cleaning robot will do all the dirty work for you. By placing this nifty device on the top of your grill, the robot will automatically scrub and scrape the remnants stuck on the surface of your grill. This is also the perfect gift for any barbecue enthusiast in your family.
